1. There is very limited availability for the Birth Partners Evenings
*** There is space for two more bookings on Monday 30th April - please let me know if you are interested ***
*** There is only space for 1 more booking for Monday 28th May and 1 more for Monday 2nd July ***
*** There will be no Birth Partners Class in August ***
Please let me know as early as possible if you are interested
The best time to come is during the 3rd trimester, at least 6 weeks before your due date, so if you are due in late June or July, this week's is probably the best date for you.
This fun and informative evening for you and your Birth Partner includes:
How the body is perfectly designed for labour
The physiology of a normal birth
How to maximise the pelvis using specific positions and working with gravity, including practise of supported positions with your Birth Partner
How your state of relaxation affects labour, and what your Partner can do to help you.
How your Partner can support you phsically and mentally to make labour easier
How to gain confidence and enjoy your labour
This is also a great opportunity to meet other future Mums and Dads.
If you or your partner are at all anxious about the labour, you will really benefit from coming to this small and informal workshop.
"I tried to remember all the things you taught us in the yoga classes, but it can be difficult when the pain hits you! So the partners class was very valuable, as Johnny would keep me on track with my breathing etc when I started to lose focus!" Tanjit
Cost - £40 for you and a Birth Partner
If you would like to book, please let me know ASAP, with payment to secure your booking. Space is very limited.
~ FUTURE BIRTH PARTNERS EVENINGS ~ MAY 28TH ~ JULY 2ND ~ BOOK EARLY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT ~
2. Would you like to feature in a new pregnancy documentary?
You need to be due before end of Aug/beginning of September, and they have already started some filming, so would need to decide and get in touch soon if you are interested. It would be a great way to have your pregnancy and birth documented for the future.
This is what the production company have sent to me:
"We are making an eight part observational documentary series for Sky Living following women and their partner/families on their journey through pregnancy and birth.
In each exciting one hour episode we will be filming two expectant women and their partners/family as they prepare for their new addition and plan their perfect pregnancy. As every pregnancy is different and every woman unique we hope to cover a wide spectrum of stories and approaches to pregnancy.
We don’t intend to film around the clock but we would like to be present for individual key moments and preparations. From the twenty week scan, visiting pre natal practitioners, decorating the nursery, the baby shower and even the Baby-moon. The climax of the series will culminate in the birth itself and meeting the new arrival. Ultimately, documenting the process for the family to watch in years to come.
We are a small film crew and are well aware that we will have access to one of the most important moments of an expectant mother and her family’s life so we talk to contributors in great detail about the filming process before we commence.
We are also hoping to talk to pregnancy experts and those who specialise in pre-natal treatments and products who may like to take part who have clients/ contacts with mums to be. During the series we endeavour to cover a vast array of treatments, therapies and techniques which is why we are looking for different approaches to pregnancy.
If you have any questions please contact me either by phone on: 0207 034 9698 or email:
anne.rowland@nutopia.com <>."
3. Book a TENS unit for drug-free pain relief
There is evidence that using a TENS early in your labour enables you to stay at home for longer before needing to transfer to hospital.
Many women use only TENS for pain relief throughout labour

I have TENS Units available For Hire. Each unit comes with your own personal large, re-useable electrodes which can be taken off an on through labour. Also included are: 2 small tester pads to check the unit before labour, a new 9V battery, Boost button (vital for labour), and a protective case.
Price: £25 to hire for 5 weeks. Send me an email ASAP to reserve your TENS unit from 37 weeks.
4. Do you need to buy a Birth Ball?
Birth Balls are extremely useful for helping you to sit and rest comfortably towards the end of your pregnancy and during labour. Regularly sitting on your Birth Ball also encourages your baby into the Optimal Foetal Position, so long as the Ball is the correct size for your height. Birth Balls can also be used postnatally to soothe your baby, and strengthen your core muscles.
It is important to use a Birth Ball, not an Exercise Ball during pregnancy and labour, as Exercise Balls are often too small, and most do not have the anti-burst technology, which makes Birth Balls much safer.
If you would like to buy a Birth Ball, I have 3 different sizes for £20 each. Let me know how tall you are so I can find the correct size for you.
5. Recommendation from Emma for the Halcyon Birth Centre
I mentioned the Halcyon Birth Centre in my newsletter a few weeks ago. Emma has just given birth to her baby there - see blow. This is what she had to say about it: "It was a great experience and if you are low risk I recommend birthing there! We had the whole place to ourselves! And the iPod dock and LED light show really set the mood too!"
5. Congratulations to Emma, and Jessica
Emma (due 16th April) gave birth to her daughter, Yasmin Isobel, on Wed 11th April at 11.01pm at the Halcyon Midwife Centre. Myself and my partner delivered our baby in the water together - with no intervention from the midwife and not one single tear! It was a truly AMAZING ezperience as I hoped for and a true celebration of the birth of our daughter! And the out-breath kept me in control!"
Jessica (due 1st May) gave birth to her daughter, Alyssa Naomi on April 28th at 2.08am, weighing 7lb 7oz. "Had a great birth and am looking forward to telling you about it."
If I have missed your Birth Announcement, pease let me know so that I can include it in the next newletter.
Good luck to those of you who are due soon. Remember to stay relaxed, focus on the out-breath, and deal with each contraction one at a time. And don't forget to share your news with us as soon as you can.
Wishing you all the very best.
Paula
